Dragon Boat Race Watching and Lunch with Current Business and Communications Students

Report

From Newsletter #5:

On June 12 we delighted some of our members and many of our visiting UT students with a new experience.  It was the first time for most of the visiting UT students and some of our members to see a dragon boat race.  In great UT glory our large group managed to occupy a decent amount of space along the Shatin waterfront.  We did have a nice view of the beginning of the races, but we struggled to determine the winners.  Nonetheless, it was a worthwhile experience for all, and it was an opportunity for the Hong Kongers to show off a special side of Hong Kong to our visiting students.

We continued showing off great things in Hong Kong to our visiting UT students by immersing them in the amazingness of Cantonese dim sum.  A good handful might have had dim sum before, but they probably had not seen such an ample quantity of dim sum spread across their large 12+ people round table.  As the literal translation of dim sum goes this feast touched our students’ and member’s hearts and filled their stomachs with tasty food.

It was a day before our President’s birthday.  We surprised Victor with a nice cake and card to celebrate the great success of this wonderful day that he made possible.  Our VP also captured a great picture of all us after our hearts had been touched and new connections had been made.

Invitation

Previously called the CIBER program, the McCombs BBA Short-Term International Programs sends two classes of accounting and supply chain management students to Hong Kong each year to take classes and to have company visits in Hong Kong and China. The students also take the opportunity to experience the local culture.

In the past two years, we have had four activities with the students of the program, and all the participants enjoyed those activities very much. Alumni and students built friendships that last beyond the end of the program.
The success of these activities requires the strong participation of our alumni in Hong Kong, to introduce Hong Kong to them and let them feel welcomed by the alumni. Strong participation is not difficult. Just come to join the activities!

About 55 current UT business students are going to study here in Hong Kong for 5 weeks. 25 accounting students will be here by the Dragon Boat Festival, and we are going to watch dragon boat races and have lunch with them. We will be joined by a class of 12 students from College of Communications who will be led by Dr Wei-Na Lee. They will also be having classes in Hong Kong.

Here are the details:
Date: June 12 (Wednesday, Dragon Boat Festival)
Time: 9:30am dragon boat race watching, 12nn for dim sum lunch
Meeting Place: Shatin MTR Station ticketing area
Venue: Shing Mun River and a dim sum restaurant in Shatin (TBC)
Cost: Share the lunch cost, about HKD100 per person.

It is our golden opportunity to meet some current UT students and link ourselves back with the school that we once attended and still love.

RSVP. Due to the large group size we need a good estimate of the number of participants to make reservations. Please indicate if you opt to attend dragon boat race watching only or lunch only.
Please also note that we are going to host a happy hour gathering for our alumni and the McCombs BBA Short-Term International Programs students to meet on July 5 in the Lan Kwai Fong area. Please note that the Communications students would have left Hong Kong by then. More details will be sent out soon. For now, please mark that down in your calendar.
