Pre-Hong Kong Texas Exes
- Pre-2000
- A group of alumni led by Andrew Lee called “Horns of Hong Kong” was in existence.
- Anthony Chan was the Local Contact of Texas Exes.
- 2000
- Two alumni, Ken Soh and Richard So, created a virtual group for Texas Exes in Hong Kong in a social networking website called eCircles in May/June.
Hong Kong Texas Exes
- 2001
- International Alumni Relations Director Ms Nancy Kocurek visited Hong Kong in January with Flying Longhorns and discussed the possibility to organize the alumni in Hong Kong.
- A happy hour gathering was organized by Richard So in March.
- eCircles was closed in April; Victor Nip moved all data in eCircles to Intranets.com, and gave the name “Hong Kong Texas Exes” to the group.
- Victor Nip created the Hong Kong Texas Exes web site in June.
- Benjamin Chang and Victor Nip volunteered to co-chair the group.
- 2002
- Benjamin Chang spearheaded the first “Book Prize” to current Hong Kong students at UT.
- First Texas Independence Day Dinner was held in March.
- Victor Nip was appointed as Local Contact by Texas Exes.
- Hong Kong Texas Exes was formally recognized as the local network in Hong Kong.
- Hong Kong Texas Exes adopted the “Horns of Hong Kong” logo.
- 2003
- The HKTX.org web site was launched, replacing the old web site.
- 2005
- The first formal AGM was held.
- Members may pay voluntary membership fee starting from May to support the organization financially.
- 2006
- The first formal committee was formed.
- AGM/Texas Independence Day/5-Year Anniversary Dinner was held to commemorate the 5-year anniversary.
- 2007
- The Hong Kong Texas Exes Facebook Group was created.
- 2009
- Hong Kong Texas Exes was registered as a society under the Hong Kong Societies Ordinance.
- 2010
- Constitution was adopted during AGM.
- 2011
- First formal election was held during AGM.
- 2012
- The Hong Kong Texas Exes LinkedIn Group was created.
- 2014
- Hong Kong Texas Exes was recognized as a non-chartered chapter by Texas Exes.
- 2015
- Victor Nip, Winson Chan, Carl Sung, and Celine Lok, after serving at least 7 years each in the Executive Committee, retired as Committee members.
- A new class of members, student member, was provided in the amended Constitution.
- The Interim Administrative Unit (IAU) was formed to keep HKTX alive.
