Report
We gathered the items from our participants of the AGM during the dinner. Two days later on February 27, Winson and Victor delivered the items to Food Grace’s collection point at World Trade Centre in Causeway Bay. We have our mission accomplished!
Invitation
“Texas Exes Project Worldwide” is Texas Exes’ community service initiative in which all Texas Exes chapters around the globe are asked to participate in a single day of community service anytime during the month of February. This international service initiative is an extension of an annual student-driven community service project on the UT campus known as “The Project” which also takes place in February and attracts thousands of UT students, alumni, faculty and staff to give back to the community.
The event is an opportunity for UT Alumni to not only serve the University and the alumni association, but also the members of our own communities. Last year, 63 Chapters participated across the globe, showcasing the many ways in which University of Texas alumni give back. Of those 63 Chapters, 5 Chapters are international Chapters, including Hong Kong. We collected a small amount of money from each those who want to participate during the AGM 2016 and donated the money to Hong Kong Oxfam. Although the amount was small, it shows our commitment to support our university and our alumni association.
When we talked to the coordinator of Texas Exes last year, he mentioned that Project Worldwide is the number one activity that the alumni association wants us to do. Our university’s slogan is “What Starts Here Changes The World!”, and by participating in the activity we help our university to live up to its slogan.
Our Project Worldwide 2017 Activity
Every Chinese New Year we receive gifts from friends and relatives when they visit our homes. Many of such gifts are food items, such as biscuits, egg rolls, and candy. Often we receive much more than we can consume.
In our event, we will collect these excess Chinese New Year food gifts from our alumni during the AGM on February 25. Each item must be
- packaged and dry food
- genuinely a gift received during the Chinese New Year
- unopened
- needing no refrigeration, and
- with an expiry date beyond April 30, 2017.
We will donate the items to Food Grace, a charity which does food recycling, to support their campaign to collect Chinese New Year food for poor families.
To give us your items, please bring them to AGM venue (Inn Side Out, South China Athletic Association, 2/F 88 Caroline Hill Road) between 6:30pm and 9pm on February 25 (Saturday). Your participation in the AGM and Texas Independence Day Dinner is not required for participating in this activity although we strongly encourage you to join the event, too. Please call 5597-9775 if you need to get in touch with us before and during the collection.
Please support the activity for the Chapter, Texas Exes, and our university.
May the ‘Horns be with y’all!
