From Newsletter #8:
Michael Carrizales is the Chapter Advisory Board Chair Member of Texas Exes. He visited Hong Kong for the first time in September 2014 for business with his wife. He took some time out of his busy schedule to meet the Exco on September 28 for dinner.
We believe that, like ourselves, Michael and his wife would find this meeting extremely memorable. We had arranged to meet in the City Hall Maxim Café in Central. The restaurant was the place where the Exco had met numerous times to discuss the affairs of HKTX, so we thought having the meeting there would be meaningful. It turned out that September 28 was the start of Occupy Central, and a news anchor specifically mentioned City Hall when she talked about where the protestors were moving to. To avoid danger we had to find another meeting place. As it was a Sunday, it was difficult to find another suitable place which was accessible and available in such short notice. Rescheduling was also not an option. After numerous phone calls, we finally decided to meet in City Top in the City University which is usually quiet during weekends. It is also in the same unit where we had a couple of AGM’s before so we think it was the next best place.
During the dinner Michael gave us a lot of information about what was happening at Texas Exes, especially what they were doing about the international chapters. He had asked what kind of assistance that we would like to get from Texas Exes and how Texas Exes may serve the UT alumni in Hong Kong. In return, we asked Michael what the expectations of Texas Exes from international chapters like HKTX were and if there were anything that HKTX could help Texas Exes. We also exchanged ideas on current affairs. All of us enjoyed the dinner very much.
