Notre Dame UT Live Game Watch

Report

It is a football viewing party held in a football club, a different kind of football though. Thank to our alumnus Robert Jones (BBA 86), Longhorns football viewing took place at Hong Kong Football Club for the first time. The party began with a breakfast buffet where alumni of both schools got to know each other and caught up with friends. During half time, Robert took us for a tour of the facilities of the club. Oh… Almost forgot about the game! The game on that Sunday morning was the season opener of the Longhorns, facing #11 Notre Dame. Texas came up strong early and never looked back, beating the Irish handily 16 to 10 — in the number of attendance. We also won the “Youngest Football Watcher Award” by a large margin, with the youngest attendant being 8 months old.

We thank Robert again for making this happen and his full support of Hong Kong Texas Exes!

Robert’s message:

Dear all,

Kindly note that we have arranged a beautiful venue and breakfast to watch the above game, together with the HK Notre Dame alumni.

It’s at the HK Football Club in Causeway Bay 5 minute walk from Times Square

Hong Kong Football Club
3 Sports Road
Happy Valley
Hong Kong

and it’s a bit complicated because cash needs to be paid in advance for the HK$225 breakfast buffet – I know it’s not ideal, and it’s a bit pricey for breakfast – this is the way private clubs work in HK as the Notre Dame alumni already know from attending game watch at the American Club in the past (sorry the American Club is currently under construction so we can’t watch the games there this year), and HKFC is one of the most beautiful sports clubs in the world so you might wish to come check it out – if anyone is interested in joining this game watch please RSVP to me (I am the HKFC member) RFJsparky@hotmail.com, and make advance payment of HK$225 per person (sorry no lower price for kids, no option to skip breakfast – same payment must be made for each person attending, and my account will be charged based on attendance). Here are the basic ground rules (sorry to be so pedantic!):

i) it’s a private club – any dress code is ok for this game watch (shorts and flip flops are ok!) but private clubs have loads of rules including:

a) no mobile phones can be used inside the club – they’ve got house phones if anyone needs to make a call, or step outside the club to make a call – I get fined $200 for anyone caught by HKFC staff using a phone in HKFC

b) no cash inside the club – if HKFC staff see cash changing hands they will ban all future game watch events at the club – thus advance payment required – if you really really want to bring HK$225 cash on the day that’s ok we’ll have to walk out outside the HKFC for the collection! Or if you’re anywhere near Discovery Bay, Sheung Wan, or Pok Fu Lam this week before Sunday that’s also ok as Notre Dame’s Alumni head Jeff, and Robert live/work there and you can pass them HK$225.
c) no screaming too loud when your team scores – hahaha – yes there might be sleeping staff at the club?

d) in the event of a typhoon there is a cancellation policy and I will have to refund everyone’s $ – not an ideal situation but I am happy to do it!

If anyone wishes to see the nitty gritty details of the HKFC agreement that I signed in relation to this event just let me know and I’ll send it to you so you can enjoy all of the fine print!
Any questions please don’t hesitate to ask here or by email…my mobile is 9316 7564. My email is RFJsparky@hotmail.com.

My account details for depositing or transferring HK$225 per adult or child is here:

HSBC
Account number 048-280408-833
Account name Mr JONES JR ROBERT FRANKLIN & MISS KOO MEI BING

Please notify me of any deposits made so I can scramble to confirm payment received. After each payment has been received I will send a confirmation to your email! After making a deposit or transfer to my account above, best to keep things simple by sending me a message with the names of persons attending, email address(es), and mobile(s) to make the registration and payment confirmation process as easy as possible. The Chairman of HK Notre Dame alumni lives in DB, and I work/live in Sheung Wan/Pok Fu Lam – if anyone wants to bring cash to these locations over the weekend or next week that’s also ok!

Thanks and hope see you there!

Robert F. Jones (UT BBA ’86)
