Museum Visit and Lunch with Students of CIBER International Summer Programs

Report

From Newsletter #2:

Each summer the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) sends about 200 graduate and undergraduate business students abroad to take classes, go on company visits, become exposed to international business practices, etc., in Hong Kong, Paris, Prague, and Edinburgh.  CIBER sends about 60 Accounting and Supply Chain Management majors to Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, the students take two business related courses and live at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) for approximately 5 weeks.

This year, 58 students came to Hong Kong in June, together with 2 staffers and 2 professors.  HKTX has organized 2 events for the alumni and students to meet.

On June 9, we had a visit to the Hong Kong Heritage Museum followed by a dim sum lunch in the Grand Capital Banquet Hall.  78 people, including 2 kids and one baby, joined the event.  With that, it is the second most-participated event of the history of HKTX (only second to the National Championship watching party with USC).

On June 27, we had a Special Happy Hour Gathering with the students at Prive in Central.  Participation from the students was a bit below our expectation because of the presentations that the SCM students had to do in the following day.  Nonetheless all participants enjoyed the venue and the gathering very much.

The study abroad programs will continue next year.  The Exco looks forward to meeting some new students.

Invitation

As mentioned in the newsletter we sent out a few weeks ago, about 60 current business students are going to study here in Hong Kong for 5 weeks. In the newsletter, our President has asked for your support for the activities involving these students. You can support us by being in the activities to meet these students and enjoying their company.

In Hong Kong, the students take two business related courses and live at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Last year, we had organized 2 activities for the CIBER Summer Program students to experience the culture of Hong Kong and to meet our alumni here. The activities were very well received.

We are going to welcome the students and staff of the program on the first Saturday they are here (June 9). We will first visit the Hong Kong Heritage Museum together and then we will go to have a dim sum lunch in a restaurant nearby. Here are the details:

Date: June 9 (Saturday)
Time: 9:30am (tentative) for museum visit, 12nn (tentative) for lunch
Meeting Place: Shatin MTR Station ticketing area
Venue: Hong Kong Heritage Museum (museum visit), a dim sum restaurant in Shatin (lunch @ Grand Capital Banquet Hall (Shatin Town Hall, http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=6924)
Cost: $20 for museum visit, share the cost for lunch (about $100-$120)

We are told that most of the students, if not all, will attend the activity. It is our golden opportunity to meet the current UT students and link ourselves back with the school that we once attended and love.

RSVP. Due to the large group size we need a good estimate of the number of participants to make reservations. Please indicate if you opt to attend museum visit only or lunch only. If you want to contact us, please call us at 6481 6005.

Please also note that we are going to host a happy hour gathering for our alumni and the students to meet on June 29 in the Lan Kwai Fong area. More details will be sent out soon. For now, please mark that down in your calendar.
