1. HKTX Happy Hour Gathering
This month we are going to have our happy hour on the second Friday of the month. Here are the details:
Date: November 9, 2007 (Friday)
Time: 7-9pm
Venue: Dickens Bar, Excelsior Hotel, Causeway Bay
Fee: Buy your own drinks
As usual, you are welcome to bring your friends. Some of us will have dinner afterwards and for those who are interested may join us. See you there!
2. Inter-Club Happy Hour
After some successful happy hour gatherings with other schools’ alumni organization, we are going to have a bigger joint organization event. Here are the tentative details:
Date: November 29, 2007 (Thursday)
Time: 630-9pm
Venue: TBC
Fee: Buy your own drinks at 40% off
Participating alumni, apart from Longhorns, tentatively include alumni from Boston, Cambridge, Georgetown, LSE, MIT, NYU, UCLA, UBC, UPenn, Warwick, and Wellesley. Alumni from other universities are also welcomed. It is going to be a big party, and is a great opportunity for our alumni to meet some new friends. More information will be available soon. For now, please mark your calendar.
3. Thanksgiving/Christmas Dinner
This year, we want to add a little bit of Christmas chemistry into our traditionally biggest event of the year which is the Annual Thanksgiving Dinner. So this time we will have the dinner in December. Here are the tentative details:
Date: December 1, 2007 (Saturday)
Time: TBC
Venue: Craigengower Cricket Club (CCC), Happy Valley
Fee: TBC
More details will be available as the day comes nearer. For now, again, please mark it down on your calendar.
4. Strategy for Communication with Members
Since we began organizing joint events, we have been making a lot of connections with other universities’ alumni organizations and they have been inviting our committee and alumni to join their events since then. To cope with the need of more communication with our members, our committee has decided that we will use Facebook (www.facebook.com) as part of the communication strategy with our members.
All activities organized by our committee will still be communicated through our own email. Joining our group in Facebook is thus optional for members, but we strongly encourage you opened an account in Facebook to receive our communication because of the information that we will send out through Facebook. Please note that non-UT alumni who are interested in our activities may also join our group.
The following summarizes our communication strategy:
i) HKTX email: for alumni only
ii) Facebook communication: for both alumni and friends of HKTX
iii) Activities organized by other alumni organizations where our alumni are invited – Email: No, Facebook: Yes
iv) Activities organized/co-organized by HKTX which are open to alumni and friends of HKTX (e.g., Happy Hour Gatherings) – Email: Yes, Facebook: Yes
v) Activities organized/co-organized by HKTX for alumni and invited guests only (e.g., AGM, Thanksgiving Dinner) – Email: Yes, Facebook: No
Our committee will approve your joining of the Facebook group if we recognize your name and email address in your Facebook account, or if we are satisfied after evaluating other information shown in Facebook such as your network of friends in Facebook. We will also approve those whom we have met in any alumni organizations’ events with a similar approach. To join Facebook, you will need to supply some more information than a name and an email, and we suggest you supply the minimum amount of information unless your are comfortable with supplying additional information. Also, please note that there is a “privacy” section that you may want to explore in order to hide the information that you do not want to show others.
